They could be described as one of the most unlikely couples in the history of British popular culture, but MP Lembit Opik and Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia are to tie the knot.
The 43-year-old Lib Dem proposed to his girlfriend while the pair were on a romantic holiday in Rome.
Gabriela is one half of twin outfit the Cheeky Girls, who stormed to fame despite a horrendous audition on ITV's Pop Stars: The Rivals in 2006.
Their debut single Touch My Bum got to number two in the charts, launching the girls into the spotlight.
Gabriela has been dating Lembit for the past two years following his break up with TV weathergirl Sian Lloyd and is said to have been overjoyed following the proposal.
The politician explained to Hello! magazine how he popped the question by the Trevi Fountain in one of the world’s most romantic cities.
Lembit told the magazine: "We were euphoric afterwards, walking around the city and then sipping champagne and chatting away in our hotel suite until the early hours. I couldn't ask for things to go better than they did."
