... 'Silver surgery' increases as older Brits find lov
18 November 2008

A rising number of older Britons are having cosmetic surgery in an attempt to feel good about themselves, according to new research.

A study from The Harley Medical Group showed that bookings for those aged between 45 and 65 have doubled this year.

The growing rise in 'silver surgery' has been put down to the fact that there are an increasing number of older people finding love and getting married for a second time
.

Second marriages now account for one in three marriages in the UK and it seems that people are wanting to make sure they look good when walking up the aisle.

For some this means turning back the clock by going under the knife and revealing the former youth that they once knew.

Popular pre-nuptial procedures for middle-aged women include breast uplifts, Botox and a face lift.

Meanwhile the men are more likely to go for rhinoplasty or otoplasty.

Liz Dale, director of The Harley Medical Group, said: "Many patients have thought about surgery for a long time and when they come out of a long-term relationship it can be part of their start afresh strategy.

"Cosmetic surgery helps give our patients renewed confidence as they embark on new relationships and second marriages. We also see many patients using Botox to help keep their appearance fresh when they have a younger partner."
