... Men ashamed of their bodies, says survey
14 August 2008

A third of British men are so ashamed of their bodies that they do not want to get naked in front of their wives and girlfriends, according to a new study.

Research by Men's Fitness magazine showed that 70 per cent of men are now unhappy with their bodies.

It revealed that men and women are not as different as they think, with the research showing that just as many women are unhappy with their figure
.

What is surprising is the number of men who are so self-conscious about their shape that they turn off the lights when making love – an action normally associated with women who feel frumpy and unattractive.

Peter Muir, editor of Men's Fitness magazine, said: "Traditionally it has been women who suffer from negative perceptions about their bodies but our survey shows that men are now joining them in the body angst stakes."

The vast majority of men (87 per cent) said they want to become a lot more muscular and rival the physiques of hotties such as Daniel Craig.

One in five men in the UK would think about having plastic surgery in order to achieve that, while women aspire to look like Jessica Alba.
