Workplace romances and breaking the rules ... Workplace romances and breaking the rules
9 May 2007

We have all heard of office romances, but is it worth carrying on a relationship if it gets you in trouble at work?

With one in four people finding love in the workplace, there are still plenty of examples of people breaking the rules when it comes to romance with a colleague
.

Contestants on last week's The Apprentice were faced with a sticky situation when Paul was sacked in the boardroom as his team mates let on to Sir Alan Sugar about his relationship with fellow apprentice hopeful Katie.

Paul Callaghan, a former army lieutenant, did not take lover Katie to the boardroom where she would have faced the risk if being sacked, but his gallantry has cost him dearly, as Sir Alan realised that Paul was putting his out-of-work relationship before the task in hand.

Relationship politics in the workplace also became an issue for World Bank president, Paul Wolfowitz, who intervened in his girlfriend being awarded a promotion and pay rise within the World Bank.

Workplaces are increasingly implementing policies to ensure that relationships don't get in the way at work, evident in the rise in popularity of 'love contracts'.ADNFCR-1016-ID-18143590-ADNFCR
