Wedding bells chime for couple's big day

When a groom-to-be found that the bells in the church where his nuptials were to take place did not work, he took matters into his own hands.
Paul Berry, a builder, decided to mend the bells himself and, armed with his tool belt, climbed to the top of the bell tower to make them ring after 27 years of silence, reports This Is Lancashire

Mr Berry said: "When we found the bells didn't work, I asked if I could have a look to see if there was anything I could do.
"They needed a new bracket and new rope, so I called in a few favours from people I know to get the bits I needed and spent a few hours crawling about in the bell tower to fix them.
"We both wanted to bells ringing for a traditional wedding."
The local community at the church was so pleased they were ringing again that they decided to do the wedding flowers as a thank you.
Mr Berry's new bride said: "He was very determined that everything was going to be perfect and I'm proud that he managed it."
