A YouGov survey has revealed the most common ways of finding a partner or date.

In first place comes going out with friends to bars and clubs, followed by meeting people through work.

Online dating ranks fifth as a way of finding a prospective partner, ahead of dinner parties arranged by friends and speed dating, among others.

Men and women have almost equal success at finding a partner online, although men slightly take the lead.

Some 22 of those who have found partners online are aged between 25 and 34, the next most common age group being 35 to 44.

The geographical spread of finding a partner on the internet was almost equal throughout the UK, but London is the most common place for people to meet a partner.

This was followed by the rest of the south, the Midlands and Wales, with the north and Scotland coming closely behind.copyright
