This week, two young people from Chicago met for the first time, at their own wedding.

As part of a social experiment radio station WTMX-FM 101.9 named 'Two Strangers and a Wedding? Is Love Blind?' the pair had been selected from a group of contestants and had communicated over the phone for two weeks leading up to the ceremony.

They had even been on a dinner date, but were separated by a screen throughout, which the bride, 31-year-old Laura O'Connor described as "Hands-down the weirdest experience in my life," reports the Chicago Sun Times.

Upon seeing each other for the first time, the couple embraced and were cheered by the large crowd.

Describing his bride, the groom, Ted Bell, said: "Seeing her for the first time with 200 people watching, I had to take a second. She is a beautiful woman."

The couple decided not to get married after all, saying that although they got on really well, they were not in love.

Nevertheless, the groom said he was excited to see where the relationship would go.

The couple cut the cake, posed for photographs and did the first dance together.copyright
