Mark Spencer, 27, from Rochdale decided to surprise his girlfriend, Heather Hickney, 24, with an on-screen proposal this week.
He took his girlfriend to see Pirates of the Caribbean at their local cinema, but before the film began, Miss Hickney had the surprise of her life when her boyfriend appeared on the big screen.
He had secretly requested that the cinema show a written proposal during the advert section, but they went one better and filmed Mr Spencer himself asking for Heather's hand in marriage.
Mark said: "I hope this is romantic enough. I love you to bits and I want the whole world to know it."
The bride-to-be was too shocked to speak and the couple just hugged, at which the audience stood up and cheered.
Heather told the Rochdale Observer: "I was completely in shock, just overwhelmed. One minute we were sitting in our seats eating popcorn and the next Mark was on screen proposing."
The couple hope to marry later this year or early next year. They have been together for ten years and have two children.
