... 'Newly weds' to teach students about marriage 'Newly weds' to teach students about marriage

10 April 2007

Students in the US are to receive marriage lessons using the hit MTV show Newlyweds.

The show featured singer Nick Lachey and actress/singer Jessica Simpson during their first year of marriage.

Students will now be able to observe where the couple went wrong and what they did right in the special topics class, entitled from Newlyweds to Separate Beds.

The class aims to use the show to highlight some of the typical issues faced by newly married couples.

Brian Willoughby, who created the class, said: "Besides the filler, the dumb scenes, their relationship comes through?I thought it would be interesting to use pop culture to explore how to have and maintain a healthy marriage," reports the Minnesota Daily.

In 2001 the average age for men in the UK to get married was 30.6 and 28.4 for women. This is up from 27.5 and 25.5 in 1991.

Research from the US has found that people who get married over the age of 25 are more likely to stay with their spouse.copyright
