A man who suspected his daughter of being unfaithful to her husband was shocked to discover his own wife was the love cheat, an Israeli newspaper reported on Sunday.
The man, who chose to remain anonymous, hired a private detective at the request of his suspicious son-in-law
.
In the event, the daughter was innocent but the detective provided photographic evidence of the wife's affair.
The man has since filed for divorce.
According to the Maariv newspaper, he told his lawyer: "I saved my daughter's marriage and at the same time saved myself from a woman who had it all in life but chose another man."
Private investigations are common in Israel, where rabbinical courts offer a paid service of private detectives to locate people refusing to divorce.
Although ancient Jewish law disapproves of male infidelity, the right to demand divorce for adultery was only recently extended to women.
