Italy has been voted the world's most romantic destination according to a survey by Universal Pictures and lastminute.com.
Italy offers couples an endless choice of walks, restaurants, scenery and museums to enjoy, not to mention the traditional gondola ride, complete with serenade.
In second place is the Maldives, popular for its peaceful and secluded beaches. The Caribbean is in a number three, famed for its food and culture, not forgetting its golden beaches.
The USA, with its wide variety of activities to suit any couple, came fourth. In fifth place was the Seychelles, marking a considerable slide down the list.
John Bevan, travel director at lastminute.com, said: "There can be few experiences as romantic as wandering the little streets at the heart of Rome at night, or draining another glass of limoncello on a restaurant terrace overlooking the Mediterranean, so it's not surprising that our customers have voted Italy as the most romantic destination in the world.
"However, it's interesting to see that the typical honeymoon destinations of the Caribbean and the Seychelles have been pushed from pole position, suggesting that our customers want more inspiration from their romantic destination than just lazing around on an idyllic beach."
Voters have chosen their favourite destinations using an interactive map on Google Earth on the lastminute.com website.
