A 60-year study has revealed that women place more value on a man's personality and looks that the size of his manhood. Instead, it is men who think that size matters.
It was also revealed that 85 per cent of women were satisfied with their partner's penis size, compared to just 55 per cent of men. Women also confessed to generally favour girth over length.
Erect penises were found to measure between 5.5 and 6.2 inches in length and 4.7 to 5.1 inches in girth. Homosexual men were found to have larger penises than heterosexual men.
The survey also found that 66 per cent of men describe their penis size as average, 22 per cent said theirs was large and 12 per cent admitted to having what they considered to be a small penis.
Methods of penis enlargement employed by men around the world have included getting a snake bite to make the penis swell, which can last for six months.
Vacuum methods of enlargement have been shown to be limited and surgery often has complications attached to it.
Dr Kevan Wylie, who carried out some of the research, said: "It is very common for men to worry about the size of their penis and it is important that these concerns aren't dismissed as this can heighten concerns and anxieties.
"There is poorly documented evidence to support the use of penile extenders and while information is starting to emerge on the success of some surgical techniques, this is not backed up by data on patients' satisfaction with such procedures."
