A survey of internet porn use in Australia has revealed surprising statistics about viewers and their habits.
One third of Australians visited a porn site at least once in the first three months of this year, according to the findings of the Queensland University of Technology.
The survey also found that one in three porn viewers are women and only seven per cent of all users reported a negative effect on their attitude to sex.
Alan McKee, author of the report, said: "Australians who use pornography say it not only gives them pleasure but broadens their minds and provides a valuable sex education."
However, an increasing number of men are becoming addicted to viewing pornographic images online, damaging their relationships with the women in their lives.
Micheal Flood, a gender studies researcher, said: "This is not about couples going to the porn store to spice up their sex lives.
"Men in growing numbers are using porn in ways that are secret, shameful and damaging. It is having a damaging impact on intimacy and sexuality," reports the Brisbane Times.
The survey also found that 20 per cent of porn viewers were under 18 and five per cent were over 65.
