Next time your friend comes back from a fortnight in the sun boasting about a perfect love affair, it might be a good idea to take it with a pinch of salt.
That's because a new survey has found that saying you have had a holiday romance is one of the top holiday lies that people spin after returning from a getaway
.
In fact, inventing a holiday romance is the ninth most common lie people tell their friends when they get home.
Another popular lie holidaymakers regularly weave is that they met a celebrity abroad, at number ten in the lie list, according to the Guardian.
Other popular holiday fibs included saying the weather was perfect, overdoing the quality of restaurants and saying you lost weight on holiday.
Paul Birkenhead of Halifax Travel Insurance, who conducted the survey, said: "Holidays have become the new Rolex or Porsche, a status symbol used to impress friends, family and colleagues."
