A young British couple almost fell to their death while holidaying in Majorca this week, but were saved by the branches of a tree.
The kissing couple fell 50 feet off a balcony. But fortunately a tree broke their fall and just two broken ankles resulted for Leanne Hanley, while her boyfriend Nicholas Maxwell came off unharmed.
The couple were partaking on what police called "an amorous game" when the fall occurred at 05:30 after a night out in Magaluf on the island's south coast.
Police said: "These young people are extremely lucky. They fell 15 metres, the equivalent of six storeys.
"Normally people do not survive a fall of more than three floors. It was the tree that saved them."
In keeping with their exotic destination, it was the branches of a fig tree which lessened the impact of their fall.
Their time abroad will now extended as Leanne recovers in hospital in Palma.
