French kiss leads to criminal damage
24 July 2007
A French woman's love of art has landed her in hot water after she planted a kiss on an expensive painting at an exhibition.

The untitled work by the American artist Cy Twombly is part of a current exhibition dedicated to the painter in the southern French city of Avignon.
It is worth an estimated £2 million.
Painter Sam Rindy said she was so overcome by the white canvas that she could not refrain from kissing it. She said: "I stepped back. I found the painting even more beautiful." "The artist left this white for me." Her impulse resulted in the artwork being marked with a lipstick smudge.
Staff of the Lambert foundation responded by calling the police, who arrested the 30-year-old. The curator of the museum, Eric Mezil, called the act "vandalism, a rape".
"Lipstick contains fat and chemicals and red is the most violent colour: this red is indelible," he said.
Rindy will appear in court on August 16th to face charges of criminal damage.
