Any man who has despaired while his partner applies that essential coat of mascara, makes a "quick" phone call or tries "just one more" garment on will feel vindicated by research published this week.
According to the clothes website www.missbutterfly.co.uk, men typically spend close to a year waiting for their wives and girlfriends
.
That includes a yawn-inducing 22 weeks outside changing rooms while their ladies try on clothes and almost a full week in their cars waiting on partners returning from a night out.
Some 61 per cent of the 2,000 men polled said it drove them round the bend.
A spokesperson for the website commented: "Its staggering how long men have to wait."
However, the poll revealed that men will not wait forever.
One in ten had become so enraged that they dumped their partner over the issue.
Meanwhile, 20 per cent admitted they used the time to check out other female shoppers.
