The marriage of Abraham Rhode and Amanda Hart recently took place with the bride and groom 6,000 miles apart.
Serving as a soldier, the groom was based in Iraq while the bride was with family and friends in Minnesota.
The couple have been apart for 18 months and do not yet know when they will be reunited as husband and wife.
They had scheduled a wedding for August, but after finding out they were expecting a baby, decided to push the date forward.
The National Guard chaplain who performed the service began by joking, "Abe and Mandy, I don't know if you could've imagined your day could be quite like this," reports AP.
After the ceremony the couple blew each other a kiss.
The new Mrs Rhode said: "When we said our vows, that's when we became one. It was pretty exciting, overwhelming."
The wedding took place at midday ? a time chosen so that the couple were both in the same calendar day, as the law dictates, despite the eight hour time difference.
The couple are planning a Florida wedding for next year, when Abraham returns.
