A man who has been proposing to his partner for two years of their 49-year relationship was recently surprised when his beloved popped the question to him.
Ted Towle, 83, and Hilda Clark, 73, from Nottingham married this weekend. They were joined by their nine children, 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
The new Mrs Towle told the Mirror: "Ours must be one of the longest courtships ever. But now I'm happy I wonder why I waited so long to marry. I'm so proud to call Ted my husband after all this time."
Hilda explained that what changed her mind about marrying Ted was when their grandson was seriously ill, putting things in perspective for the bride.
Ted said: "When Hilda said 'I do', I said 'about time'. Hilda won't be rushed into anything, but I'm thrilled that she's finally made an honest man of me.
"It's been worth the wait. Hilda means everything to me and always will."
