Hollywood couple Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams have broken up after a three-year relationship, according to US magazine.
The media have dubbed it the "brokeback break-up" since the couple met while filming the gay cowboy hit movie Brokeback Mountain.
A source close to the couple told US magazine that they had "quietly and amicably split a few weeks ago".
The source continued: "The relationship had been rocky recently. They tried very hard to make it work but finally decided to separate. They just grew apart."
They have a daughter together, called Matilda, who is shortly to turn two.
Since the reported break-up Ledger has been busy with work, and chatted with the press, advertising his new film I'm Not There at the Venice Film Festival. He was said to be downhearted at the event.
Williams, who rose to fame as Jen in Dawson's Creek, has not confirmed the split, but her father said: "I know Heath and Michelle still care about each other deeply and are very committed to being great parents to their daughter."
