A chef working at an Antarctic outpost got a surprise last week when a fellow team member asked her to marry him while gazing over the Antarctic snow.
With no jewellery shop in the area, they opted to turn a piece of brass into a make-shift ring, which the groom-to-be polished until it resembled gold
.
Clive, the groom, said of the moment he popped the question: "We were looking out over the sea ice and commenting on how lucky we were to share this amazing experience.
"Then I got down on both knees and surprised Ruth."
Des Offen, another member of the team, is quoted by Sutff.co.nz as saying: "Clive said he'd been thinking about Ruth and asking her the big question.
"I said 'If you don't, someone else will grab her'. She's a top girl, a lot of fun and they're definitely well suited. Of course once he asked her, I called him an idiot."
